SHUSHO-E – New Year’s Day Service

GO-SHO-KI HOON-KO – Memorial service for St. Shinran, January 16, 1262.  It is a time to reflect and express our gratitude towards Shinran Shonin, the founder of Jodo Shinshu – True Pure Land Sect.  Shinran Shonin was the first to teach absolute faith in Amida Buddha.

SPRING HIGAN-E – Spring Devotional Service. Service held normally during equinoctial period, March. To re-affirm our fulfillment of the Bodhisattva’s practice of six perfections: Charity, Right Behavior, Endurance, Endeavor, Meditation and Wisdom.

BUDDHA DAY – Birth of Gautama, THE BUDDHA, April 8th, 496 B.C. Also known as Hanamatsuri or Wesak Day.

GOTAN-E – A gathering honoring the birth on May 21, 1173  of Shinran Shonin, the founder of the Jodo Shinshu sect of Buddhism.  It is also referred to as Fujimatsuri or Wisteria Festival.

BON SERVICE AND BON DANCE – Memorial Services for the deceased. Special services for those who died within the last twelve months. Normally held during the summer months.

AUTUMN HIGAN-E – Autumn Devotional Service. Held during the autumn equinoctial period, September. To re-affirm our fulfillment of the Bodhisattva’s practice of six perfections.

EITAIKYO – Sangha Memorial Service for the deceased.

BODHI DAY – Day of Buddha’s Enlightenment, 531 B.C. Shakyamuni BUDDHA was 35 years of age. This day is also known as JODO-E.

JOYA-E – New Year’s Eve Service.
